The capacity development stand at the IUCN World Conservation Congress.
"The development of knowledge, skills and attitudes in individuals, organisations, institutions and society to set and achieve their own objectives." (Müller et al. 2014)
The IUCN Programme on African Protected Areas & Conservation (Papaco) has secured a 24m² stand at the upcoming World Conservation Congress in Marseille (September 2021). This space will be dedicated to the presentation of ongoing or planned initiatives on Capacity Development for conservation. We are inviting all partner organizations to reach out to us to make use of this stand.
Why a stand on capacity development?
Capacity development will surely be present in each and every pavilion or booth at the World Conservation Congress, but we feel that it is important to have a dedicated space, a hub where the demand and the offer can meet easily, in particular as this congress intends to receive a huge participation from youth.
Who can participate?
Our wish is to offer to all organizations working on capacity development in the field of nature conservation the opportunity to showcase their work, enhance their network, discuss and exchange with others. This does not only include IUCN members but all participants with a relevant message on capacity development.
What topic specifically?
All aspects of capacity development can be presented and discussed. By capacity development, we mean initiatives that create or disseminate knowledge, build skills and/or change behaviors towards better conservation. This stand will hence be open to all and dedicated to all capacity development initiatives that promote nature conservation. It’s not just about protected areas!
In what language?
All languages are welcome as long as there’s a public for it. Note, however, that our team only speaks English and French as well as some Spanish so please try to use these languages in your correspondences with us.
In what format?
You are welcome to bring your own ideas/material to enhance your message. The stand will be 24m2 and should include some standing and seating areas as well as screens. It will be highly adaptive so you can definitely be inventive! We are open to your suggestions and requests, don’t hesitate to share them and we will try to adapt.
What is the selection procedure?
All presentations should be targeting capacity development for nature conservation but other than that all topics are welcome: protected areas, species, ecosystems, water, economics etc. We’ll try to accommodate as many proposals as possible, send us your idea and we’ll discuss their feasibility together and potential cooperation with other partners.
How can I help?
Help us gather more presentation by spreading the word about this initiative with other capacity development stakeholders. This is a unique opportunity to be visible at the congress, help us to make it a true success!
Send us an email at capdev2020@papaco.org. Please mention your organisation, the link between your work and Capacity Development, and if your presence at Congress is secure.
